Metallic Epoxy Flooring

Metallic Epoxy Flooring In Sudbury, Ontario

Metallic epoxy flooring is a poured decorative finish. Metallic pigments are moved through a clear resin while it is wet, producing depth, movement and a marbled effect that no two floors repeat.

It is the finish people choose when the floor is meant to be looked at rather than just walked on.

Where A Metallic Floor Belongs

Finished basements and lower-level living space, where it reads as a design floor rather than a utility one.

Showrooms, salons, studios, boutiques and reception areas, where a distinctive floor does commercial work.

Feature spaces in a home: a bar area, a games room, an entrance.

High-end garages, where the vehicle is the point and the floor is meant to match it. This needs a heavier top coat than a decorative interior floor.

How The Effect Is Made

A pigmented base coat is laid to seal and colour the slab.

The metallic layer goes on next, and this is where the work happens. Pigment is dispersed into clear resin and then moved, with rollers, blades, brushes or air, while the material is still open.

The pattern comes from that movement. Two installers get different results from the same materials, and the same installer cannot repeat a floor exactly.

A clear top coat then seals and protects the finish. In a garage or a commercial space that top coat is doing real structural work, not just adding shine.

Choosing A Look

Colour combinations range from single-pigment finishes with subtle movement through to multi-colour floors with strong contrast.

The style of movement is a choice too: a flowing marbled look, a tighter mottled texture, or a stone-like effect.

Gloss level changes the character completely. High gloss maximises depth and reflection. Satin calms it down and hides more.

We will make sample boards for a metallic floor before we install one, because a photograph of somebody else's floor is not what yours will look like.

Honest Limitations

Metallic finishes show more than flake does. Dust, footprints and scuffs are more visible, especially on a high gloss dark floor.

They are not textured. Where slip resistance matters, aggregate has to go into the top coat, and that softens the look. In a wet area, flake is the better choice.

They cost more than flake. The material is more expensive and the installation takes longer and demands more skill.

They are best suited to interior spaces that stay reasonably clean. A working garage that takes winter sand every day is not where a metallic floor shows to advantage.

Timeline

Metallic floors take longer than flake, typically three days, because the layers have to cure properly before the next one goes on.

The room has to be clean and closed off. Dust settling into a wet metallic layer shows permanently.

We will not rush one. If the schedule does not allow the cure times, we book different dates.

What We Install

Other Floors We Coat

Sudbury Epoxy Floors installs these systems for homes and businesses across Greater Sudbury.

Flake Epoxy Flooring

Flake epoxy flooring is the system most Sudbury garages and basements end up with. An epoxy base coat is rolled onto ground concrete, coloured vinyl chips are broadcast into it while it is wet, and a clear top coat locks everything down.

Basement Floor Coating

Coating a basement slab takes a cold, dusty floor and makes it part of the house. The concrete gets sealed, the grey powder stops, and the surface will carry furniture, gym equipment and daily traffic.

Concrete Floor Coating

Concrete floor coating covers everything a bare slab can become: garage, basement, workshop, porch, mechanical room, shop floor or storage bay. Same principle every time, different system depending on what the floor has to survive.
