Chemical Resistant and Containment Flooring

Chemical Resistant And Containment Flooring In Sudbury, Ontario

Chemical resistant and containment epoxy flooring is specified against what the floor has to survive rather than what it has to look like. It covers battery charging bays, chemical stores, tank rooms, plating and processing areas, and bunded containment where a spill has to be held rather than drained.

We install this epoxy flooring across Greater Sudbury for industrial, mining supply and municipal buildings. Every job is fully insured.

Chemical Resistant and Containment Flooring details

The Chemistry Has To Be Matched, Not Assumed

There is no single epoxy flooring that resists everything. Acids, alkalis, solvents, fuels and oxidisers attack resin systems in different ways, and a general-purpose floor put into a chemical area will soften, blister or discolour within months.

So the specification starts with a list. Tell us what is stored, used and spilled in the room, at what concentration and how often, and the system follows from that. Where an exposure is genuinely aggressive we will say that a coating is the wrong answer and that the room needs a different solution.

Containment Bunds Have To Hold A Spill

Containment epoxy flooring is only as good as its weakest joint. The floor, the upstand and the junction between them are installed as one continuous system with a coved fillet at the base, so there is no seam for liquid to find.

The upstand is carried to the height the volume requires, and penetrations through the bund are sealed as part of the work rather than afterwards. A bund with a pipe running through an unsealed sleeve is not a bund.

Battery Charging And Plating Areas

Battery charging bays see sulphuric acid, and the damage to the epoxy flooring shows as pitting under the chargers where nobody looks. Those areas get an acid-resistant build and a colour that makes a spill visible rather than hiding it.

Plating and processing rooms are the same argument at a larger scale, usually with drainage detail and a fall to a collection point built into the specification.

Cleaning, Inspection And Records

A chemical area is usually one an inspector will look at. The written specification names the system, the thickness and what it resists, which is the document to hand over when somebody asks.

The finish is chosen so that it can be cleaned and inspected. A surface that hides a spill is a liability in this kind of room, and the commercial epoxy flooring page covers the wider hygiene and inspection side.

What We Install

Other Floors We Coat

Sudbury Epoxy Floors installs these systems for businesses and homes across Greater Sudbury.

Loading dock levellers and bay doors above a coated grey dock apron in Greater Sudbury

Loading Dock and Ramp Coating

Loading dock and ramp coating is the heaviest epoxy flooring in the building, covering the apron inside the door, the leveller pit, the ramp and the approach, which together take more abuse than anywhere else. It is a heavy build with a textured finish, specified for grip in the wet.

Concrete Floor Coating

Concrete floor coating and epoxy flooring cover everything a bare slab can become: garage, basement, workshop, porch, mechanical room, shop floor or storage bay. Same principle every time, different system depending on what the floor has to survive.

Flake Epoxy Flooring

Flake epoxy flooring is the system most Sudbury garages and basements end up with. An epoxy base coat is rolled onto ground concrete, coloured vinyl chips are broadcast into it while it is wet, and a clear top coat locks everything down.

Basement Floor Coating

Coating a basement slab takes a cold, dusty floor and makes it part of the house. The concrete gets sealed, the grey powder stops, and the surface will carry furniture, gym equipment and daily traffic.
